The Carrizo Springs area was known in the early 20th Century as America's Winter Garden, lush with agricultural crops including onions, spinach, and melons. During the Great Depression, most of this land was allowed to go back to native plants. Here, the typical mesquite-cactus scrub land that Texas Olive Ranch is reclaiming to plant orchards.
